“The time to go fishing is when the chance comes. And the way to go is with a free and hopeful mind, and an eye quick to take note of things. There will be days when the fishing is better than one’s most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is gain over just staying home.” – Roderick Haig-Brown
No Fish Here Today
Some days, It’s an easy assumption to make when fishing our pressured Colorado tailwaters.
It’s a mental trap in which to fall.
More likely, there are no EASY fish here today.
No obvious trout, feeding within plain sight. Less than gin clear water.
No noses rising within 50 yards of the truck (which carries the well-stocked YETI).
When we say “there’s no fish,” we are caught in a futile mindset.
Escape the mental trap of “no fish here.”
1. Walk a littler farther.
2. Look for different clue.
3. Change your tactics (depth, rig, presentation).
4. Drive downriver a bit.
5. Drive upriver a bit.
6. Simply have faith.
Fish or don’t. It’s up to you.
