ABELL RANCH FISHING REPORT – Feat. Guide Gene Rea
A GREAT START AT ABELL RIVER RANCH!
Fishing Report, 4.20.2019
Head guide Gene Rea was the first to guide our new private water fly fishing destination, Abell River Ranch. Geno and guests enjoyed a day that could only be described as “EPIC.”
Take a look at our first trip to Abell Ranch, by the numbers:
5280 ANGLER GUIDE: GENE REA (2 Anglers)
LOCATION: ABELL RANCH BEAT #2.
START TIME: On the water at 8:30 am. Worked from the the bottom of the beat, up river to the top on a full day trip.
WATER CLARITY: Good.
WATER TEMP: 42-44 degrees.
WEATHER: GORGEOUS. Overcast and slightly windy later in the afternoon.
THE FISHING: “We crushed it.” Fish were located all throughout the beat in the riffles, runs, and deeper holes. Little surface activity, so nymph fishing was the most effective method. Constant action, many doubles. Aggressive trout. The kind of day where you lose count of numbers…
FLIES: Annelids & baetis. A black rainbow warrior and a grey RSII were the most effective patterns.
