Evergreens and cobble-stone-banks frame crystal clear pools, pocket water, and quiet runs. The Blue River is divided into two sections: The lower river above Green Mountain Reservoir and the upper river below Lake Dillon Reservoir.
The lower Blue, at the Blue River State Wildlife Area, is easily accessible while still remaining very scenic. There are many opportunities to view wildlife in this section. The river has rainbow and brown trout, but is also popular during the fall as kokanee salmon migrate up river from Green Mountain.
The upper Blue below the Dillon Dam flows through the town of Silverthorne. It is well-known for holding larger mysis fed trout. This section is a cool urban fisherey and one of the few destinations in Colorado where someone can go skiing, shop the outlet mall, and catch a 3 pound trout, all within the same day.
The Blue River is perfect destination for high country visitors itching to hook trout, possibly even the fish of a lifetime.
