The Colorado River And..

Williams Fork

PARSHALL COLORADO | 7,589 FT
The mighty Colorado River begins in majestic Rocky Mountain National Park on La Poudre Pass and steadily gains water and strength as it carves it’s way through our state onward towards the Gulf of Mexico. From the confluence with the Fraser River to Troublesome Creek, the Colorado is Gold Medal Water. This section of river is quite large and wild, with a mix of long, wide riffles and deep pools. The river has a diverse array of trout forage with Tricos, PMDs, Caddis, Drakes, BWOs, midges, and terrestrials – creating dry fly fishing opportunities almost year round. The river is also know for the difficult to time Salmon Fly and Green Drake Hatches. Timing this short with these hatches, but if you are one of the lucky anglers that hit it just right, you’ll make a memory of a lifetime.

The Williams Fork River

A tributary of the Colorado, is also accessible in this area and can offers prime Tailwater fishing all year round if flows are good.  There is a chance to catch sizeable rainbows and browns in this section depending on season.

The area is home to an abundance of wildlife.  Its important for anglers to divert their attention away from their flies now and again just to look up and take in the surroundings.   They may discover they are sharing the water with a moose, bear, dear, elk, otter or eagle and not even know it!   The Colorado River is a wild place.

If your are looking for the just the right balance of wilderness adventure with reasonable access, the Colorado is the quintessential Rocky Mountain freestone experience.
