Guide Jeremy Hamilton brings you this week’s report from…SECRET SPOT X! Yep, we all have our little special places (leaf and needle analysis will bring you nothing folks).

Unfortunately, Denver Water is performing work on the Roberts Tunnel, which has reduced the flows on the North Fork of the South Platte to very low levels, which will cause our favorite private waters, Boxwood Gulch Ranch & Long Meadow Ranch to close. The extreme low flows place too much additional stress on the the fish. So, we’ll leave them be and look forward to another INCREDIBLE season at Boxwood Gulch and Long Meadow Ranch. (Side Note: we had TREMENDOUS demand for these properties this season. Book early to lock in your preferred date).

Denver Water has increased flows on the South Fork of the South Platte, particularly out of Cheesman Reservoir, seemingly in response to the shut down of the Roberts Tunnel. This flow fluctuation has impacted the fishing in the Deckers area.  (Sidenote #2: Hopefully the decrease in temps and increase in flow has officially SHUT DOWN THE TUBE SEASON! WOOHOO!) Some hot flies include worms (especially when flows rise), rs-2 patterns, juju baetis, and cheesman emergers (an INCREDIBLE pattern!), as well as some midge patterns. In the afternoon, look for risers on PMD & BWO dry patterns. Work the banks, cover the water, and make your drifts count.

Jeremy has called upon lead guide Geno Rea for the update on the Dream Stream this week. Flows have been GREAT for this time of year out there! (Sidnote #3 YEAH DENVER WATER…KEEP THE VALVES OPEN!) Those steady flows, decreasing temps, and less light mean one thing…migratory brown trout! (pumped? yup.) Right now, Geno has been running a brown worm, pmd, & a drowned trico pattern as a standard nymph setup. Pay attention to what the trout are keying on and adjust accordingly out there. The mornings have still produced dry fly activity on trico patterns (a little later due to colder am temps), so have your precision game at the ready. Later into the day, look to fish the riffles to find some fun…

GOOD LUCK OUT THERE EVERYONE!
