The Rolling J Ranch
Rolling J Ranch
The Highest Gold Medal Trout Water In the World
Located just five miles south of the historic mining town of Leadville, CO at almost 10,000 feet above sea level, and nestled just below the two highest peaks in Colorado, (Mt. Elbert & Mt. Massive) lies The Rolling J Ranch. The Rolling J Ranch offers over 2 miles of pristine fly fishing spread out over 3 rivers and 233 acres.
The Rolling J is the definition of solitude, with panoramic views and miles of untouched wilderness. Wildlife is abundant in the area and it’s common to fish along with grazing elk and eagles soaring above looking for a fish to snatch. Riffles and pools are home to 5 species of trout – rainbows, cuttbows, browns, brookies, and the exotic palimino – many reaching trophy status. There are also ponds with eager cutthroat ready to take a fly on the surface.
The rivers and banks are home to an abundance of bug life. Trout dine on a variety of aquatic insects such as midges, bwo’s, stoneflies, caddis, drakes, pmd’s and terrestrials. This is an area where your guide will want to carry 3 rods, one for wet flies, one for dries, and one for streamers. Whether you are a seasoned pro, or a first-time enthusiast, “The Rolling J” will exceed your expectations.
